What is a Swing Bed?
Despite the image created by the name, a "swing bed' is not a hammock or a bed suspended in any way. A swing bed program is designed to serve those individuals who are in a transition phase of illness or recovery until discharged. It is used for a second level of medically-supervised care, and is specially designed to fill the gap between the patient's hospital stay and going home. Patients may qualify for the program if they have been in a hospital in acute care for three days and require further skilled services, such as:
- Extended wound care needs
- Acute/sub-acute rehabilitation (Physical, Speech and Occupational Therapy)
- Extended IV Therapy/Antibiotic Therapy
- Respiratory Therapy
- Discharge/Teaching Needs

Services will meet identified community needs and shall be provided with the highest concern for our patients and their families. These services will be provided at the lowest possible cost.
