Swing Bed – Extra Time to Heal

Versailles, Kentucky - At Bluegrass Community Hospital, all of these services are under one roof, close to home. Bluegrass Community Hospital is one of only a few hospitals in the Central Kentucky region to be licensed in Swing Bed care.

Despite the image created by the name, a "swing bed' is not a hammock or a bed suspended in any way. A swing bed program is designed to serve those individuals who are in a transition phase of illness or recovery until discharged. It is used for a second level of medically-supervised care, and is specially designed to fill the gap between the patient's hospital stay and going home. Patients may qualify for the program if they have been in a hospital in acute care for three days and require further skilled services, such as:

  • Extended wound care needs
  • Acute/sub-acute rehabilitation (Physical, Speech and Occupational Therapy)
  • Extended IV Therapy/Antibiotic Therapy
  • Respiratory Therapy
  • Discharge/Teaching Needs

In addition to this comprehensive care, patients accepted into the Swing Bed program at Bluegrass Community Hospital have:

  • Private Rooms
  • Highly experienced and specialized nursing staff
  • Access to your familiar medical staff
  • Certified physical, occupational, speech and respiratory therapist
  • On-site access to diagnostic tests
  • Dietary services with individualized menu planning
  • Detailed discharge planning for home transition
  • Patient and family participation in patient care and determining plan of care
  • Weekly Patient Care Conferences
  • Free Parking
  • Easy Access in a Centralized Location to close proximity of Lexington, Frankfort and Lawrenceburg
